Official

So in Utah records I am official. I finally changed my last name. I went to the Driver's License place last night (yes, three months after the fact...) and got a new license. I had been dreading it and putting it off and finally bucked up. I was thrilled to see that I didn't have 1000 people ahead of me. In fact, I think I was in and out in about 30 min! I was so excited and headed home. Aaron looked at it and said, "Uhhhh... they didn't change your name?..." I was like, "WHAT!" So I look at it and sure enough. Of course I felt retarded for not looking at it closely while I was there, but honestly what was I supposed to expect? So I called this morning and told them what had happened. I was informed I would have to come back in and re-do the process. OH PLEASE. I was going to go suffer through it again tonight but had a quiet hour at work so I asked if I could quickly go. So I went. And, well, the 1000 people were there today. I am a line-butter-hater, but I can't lie, I went straight up to the dude who had helped me yesterday and butted. He told me I should have looked at it last night. I told him he should have done it right. Boo yah! Anyway, he did change it for real this time.

So I'm wondering if I was incredibly lazy or if others of you waited a long time to change your name? Or are some of you still using your old license?

You did it quick compared to me! I just barely did when we moved to vegas. that is like um 3 years!!! hehe. If I ever got asked I would just say I was a newly wed. New years in vegas would be rad. We will be here. my bro and his fam got us a room on the strip cuz I guess the fireworks are awesome. I think you and Aaron would like doing the stratsohere ride and going to red rock canyon it is so pretty right now.

I got my license changed a month after getting married and I had to wait in line for awhile, I can't remember how long. But when I did the vision test.. I failed!! SO I had to go get my eyes checked at the eye doctor, get a prescription for glasses, and then go back and then get my new license. Now the Social Security office took HOURS!!
Good for you for telling the guy off. What a pain for you to go for a 2nd time when you shouldn't have had to.

I think I did it pretty quick... within two months for sure. I just barely sent in paperwork to get my passport renewed! That's the last one for me and then I'm officially a Layton all around! :)

I started the process the day after we returned from our honeymoon...It took forever to get everything switched over though; DL, SS, every credit card I own (I have like 25--one for every store I shop at regularly)...It took about three weeks to complete the process! I definitely breathed a sigh of relief when it was done though; I felt as though I truly accomplished an amazing task!

I think you were totally right to walk to the front of the line. I am proud to call you friend. That is kind of funny that they forgot the first time. I did mine pretty quick, but I didn't have a job at the time. It was a couple weeks before I started working, so I had a lot of down time!

I was BAD! I think it took me 2 years to change my name on my license! And I was the same way, if anyone asked I was always like "Oh I just got married". We've also almost lived in our house for 2 years and it STILL has our old address listed on it, goes to show how much I hate the DMV! You're on a roll!

I've been married for 2 1/2 years and still have my old one. I tried getting it changed but the stupid state of Utah doesn't like it if you're from California I guess. So if I need ID with my real name on it I just use my passport.

You go girl! You put that guy in his place- right where he belongs! I waited about 5 months to change my name...only because I needed to get a new license when I turned 21 anyway.

I don't remember how long I waited, but I'm pretty sure it was quite a while. (I'm a slacker!!) You rock for telling the guy what was what!! I wouldn't have had the guts to do that! You're my hero!! :)

That was like the first thing I did when I got off my honeymoon, but I know plenty of people who do take forever to change their name. 3 months isn't really that long.

I have to admit that I did not change mince until I had been married for 15 months. Also it took me 3+ years to change my social until I was forced to get my Visa and had to have it changed on my social.

I got my name changed the week after we got married and it wasn't so bad... the social security card change was the worst though. You wait for a million hours and then you spend about 30 seconds in the office with the person... totally anticlimactic. Anyways- I didn't even think about getting my passport renewed. I'll have to get on that- now that it's been a year. I just wanted to be a Kowallis and have that connection to Sean as soon as possible. Good job for getting it done!

I feel your pain!!! I didn't get mine done for 6 months, which caused some issues... they can't change your name with health insurance until it's official, so my OB's office knew me under my maiden name and had to change that. They apparently didn't spread the word because when I went to the hospital they couldn't find my records... they were under my maiden name! Oh, changing it with the social security office was the shortest, I practically walked in and out. Try and find one of their small service centers!

I did it a few weeks after, Matt, he apparently still lives with his mother :/

Have you gone to the ss office yet because that will take you forever you thought there were 1000 people at the dmv wait till you go to the ss office and there are only 100 infront of you but it take just as much time as if there were 1000 in front of you. Have Fun!!!

I changed mine about 2 months after getting married, when I turned 21. Seems like I did have to go back again, though, because I hadn't changed my social yet, or something... I don't remember exactly. But I know that it didn't take too terribly long--the lines down here in Provo aren't so bad, if you feel like making the drive... and then you could come visit us! :)

No worries...I waited 2 1/2 years to get a new driver's license. And, yes, whenever I wrote checks and they asked for my ID I'd pull the "oh silly me...I just got married and haven't gotten my new license yet" up until the day I did get my new license. You're totally on the ball, Becky!
